गोश्त लेने का अधिकारी होगा। दुर्भाग्य से एंटोनियो निर्धारित समय से धन नहीं लौटा सका शर्त के अनुसार शाइलॉक उसके शरीर से एक पाउंड गोश्त की मांग करता है। मामला कोर्ट में पहुंचता है जहां पोर्शिया शाइलॉक से एंटोनियो के प्रति दया की भावना रखने की प्रार्थनाा करती।
दया (mercy) मानव हृदय का श्रेष्ठ गुण है। मानवता के लिए यह एक दैवी उपहार है। इसके लिए बाध्य नहीं किया जा सकता। यह स्वेच्छा पर है। यह दोनों — दया करने वाले तथा प्राप्त करने वाले को सुख देती है। यह राजाओं को उनके मुकुट से भी अधिक उत्साह प्रदान करती है। यह ईश्वरीय गुण है। जब न्याय करने वाला व्यक्ति न्याय को दया से सुकोमल बना लेता है, तो उसकी शक्ति ईश्वर की शक्ति के समान लगती है।
